Peter Baloff Biography

Peter Baloff received his B.A. in English from the University of Florida in 1973, then returned to the University of Florida to earn his M.F.A. in Theatre in 1978 where he was honored with the University of Florida Presidential Recognition Award.

While completing his graduate degree, Baloff won the Norman Lear Award for Playwriting and The David Library Playwriting Award for his original play, Barnum and the Mermaid.

For the past 25 years, Baloff has written and produced movies and television shows for most of the major studios and networks in Hollywood. In addition he has produced and directed dozens of national commercials.

Baloff has sold over 15 screenplays, adapted novels for the screen and served as a script “doctor” for several movies. His screenwriting and producing credits include the Disney movie, Spooner, starring Robert Urich and Jane Kaczmarek and the Universal movie, Quicksand: No Escape, starring Donald Sutherland and Felicity Huffman, for which he received the prestigious Writers Foundation Award for Best Screenplay.

Baloff has also written network TV pilots and contributed as a writer for numerous television shows, including Picket Fences, Knight Rider, Diff'rent Strokes and, Facts of Life and served as head writer and producer for the acclaimed series, They Came from Outer Space for Universal Television.

In addition, Baloff has written and produced many network television specials and for the past 11 years has served as a writer-producer for An Evening of Stars, a nationally televised special that helps promote The United Negro College Fund (UNCF).

Over the course of his career, Baloff has served as an adjudicator and Irene Ryan acting award judge for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, an outstanding program, which cultivates nurturing mentorships between entertainment professionals and college students all across the country. He frequently teaches Screenwriting courses for the UCLA Writers Program and has lectured and conducted master classes in acting and writing for the American Film Institute and various colleges and universities.

Baloff was recently honored with the Alumni Outstanding Achievement Award from the School of Fine Arts at the University of Florida.

Peter Baloff currently lives in Woodland Hills, California and Islamorada, Florida. He is an avid fisherman, scuba diver, snow skier and part-time wrestling coach.
